56k hits 100,000 streams on Spotify

So, less than a week from the original release date, 56k has reached over 100,000 streams. I can’t believe it, but big thanks goes to the one very large playlist placement on Spotify. One playlist with over 500,000 listeners makes the world of a difference. How does one get on these playlists? Playlist campaigns like Playlist Push, for sure, but even in that, you have no control over whether a curator’s tastes are a fit for your song. Was this written with the sole purpose of being commercial and fitting with potential lists? No, if anything this was a song I had very little confidence in. It’s references are very specific, the main riff is somewhat dissonant, (we went back and forth on how to record it or change it), and really kind of had a hard time getting the song off the ground musically to produce something that spoke to the heart of the song. At the end of the day, despite some abrasion (all friendly and in service to the song) we ended up with what I think is the best version of the song, and I think that’s all you can ask for. What has shocked me is the response to the song, which has been positive and overflowing, for that I’m thankful and looking forward to recapturing that feeling, though I think I have to refrain from actively trying to seek it.
